Learning intentions

Ss that participate in the project will be encouraged to:

  •  expand their knowledge on food traditions and traditional dishes.
  • think about food  and culture in three dimensions: global, local and individual perspective.
  • compare traditional food and traditional dishes.
  •  carry out a traditional recipe (video)
  •  learn and use specific vocabulary sets related to cooking and food.

Students will also develop XXI Century Skills:

  • collaboration
  • creativity
  • critical thinking
  • communication & presentation of ideas
  • empathy
  • global citizenship
  • ICT

Procedure:

 Here you have some suggestions for  Week March 28th to April 1st start: (Before starting the project)
  • Show your kids the name of the project and make them guess what the project is about.Tell your Ss that they will be working with10 more classes who live far away.
  • They see the map and see locations.
  • If possible  take a picture of your class, in this way each class can get to know the rest of the classes.
  • See if you or the kids can tweet comments about their expectations. Remember to use #tastylife16
  • If there is something that you consider useful  and the rest of the teachers can profit from, do not hesitate, send it to me and I share it in the blog!
  • Week 1 ( April 4th to 8th)
  •  Ss will start by doing research on their food traditions considering two perspectives:Local perspective and the Individual perspective (See questions)
  • Teachers will choose how to carry out the research. Each class will discuss and come to an agreement on:   “The dish that gives a sense of local Identity”
  •  Week 2 ( April 11th to 15th)
  • They will cook and and record a tutorial. eg: “How to make Argentinian empanadas”.
    (subtitles will be welcomed)
  • Each video will be accompanied of  slide presentation, showing images of specific ingredients and the written recipe .
    ( Considering we may not be acquainted to the same food )
  •  Teachers will profit from the main task to pre teach specific vocabulary sets, such as cooking vocabulary and giving instructions.
  •  Week 3 (April 18 to 21st)
  •  Once the videos belonging to the different classes are shared Ss will create a google map to locate each country adding the tutorial you have made. eg: Argentinian students making empanadas.
  • Once  Ss  see  as many videos as possible representing the different cultures ( Variety and diversity will turn this project into an enriching experience!), they will discuss  the Global Perspective. ( See questions)
  •  Week 4 (April 24th to April 29th)
  • Teachers and classes connect ( Skype ) with the intention of asking questions to the selected class about their food traditions and compare and contrast both cultures.
  • Ss can take the recipe challenge and cook  another class dish with the intention of experiencing new tastes.
  • Renata and Viviana will compile the recipes in a global cooking book
